Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A tragedy struck the Kasba town of Purnea district early Friday morning when a Vande Bharat Express train hit a group of people near a level crossing, resulting in the instant death of three young men and injuring several others. The high-speed rail accident occurred around 5 am, shattering the early morning calm and prompting an immediate response from local authorities and railway police. The deceased victims were all young men, aged between 18 and 25 years.
The train involved in the tragic mishap was the Patliputra-bound Vande Bharat Express, which was traveling from Jogbani. Sources indicate the accident took place as the train was passing through the area near the Kasba railway crossing. The victims were attempting to cross the tracks when the speeding train struck them, highlighting the immense danger of ignoring safety protocols around railway crossings.
The injured individuals were immediately rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC), Purnea, where they are currently undergoing treatment. The severity of their injuries is yet to be fully disclosed, but medical teams are working to provide the necessary care. Railway police promptly took the bodies of the deceased into custody and initiated the required formalities, including sending them for post-mortem examinations.
The railway police have initiated an official investigation into the cause of the disaster. Authorities are currently trying to ascertain the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision. The investigation is particularly focused on two key possibilities: negligence on the part of the level crossing staff, or a dangerous attempt by the victims to cross the tracks despite the high-speed train approaching.
The nature of the Vande Bharat Express, known for its rapid acceleration and speed, underscores the importance of stringent safety measures and public awareness near all rail lines. Such high-speed corridors require heightened vigilance from both railway staff and the public to prevent such devastating accidents, especially at ungated or poorly managed crossings.
