Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A major hygiene concern emerged on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Vande Bharat train when passengers reported insects in their meals, causing widespread dissatisfaction and disruption. The incidents occurred in at least one coach, where two separate occurrences of insects in food were reported. Passengers clicked photos and submitted complaints to railway authorities, prompting swift action from the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
Following the complaints, IRCTC imposed a fine of ₹10 lakh on the food supplier, M/S Brindavan Food Products (RK Group), and issued a notice to terminate their contract. The move reflects IRCTC’s strict enforcement of food safety and hygiene standards, particularly during long-distance train services where passenger trust is critical. An official confirmed that immediate measures were taken to address the issue and ensure accountability.
Passengers expressed shock and concern as meals were refused in the affected coach. One passenger, Aditya Didwania, shared his experience on social media, highlighting the presence of insects in his meal. Reports indicate that the incidents created discomfort among multiple travelers and disrupted normal onboard service, raising questions about quality control in railway catering services.
In response, IRCTC conducted deep cleaning and pest control procedures in the affected coach to prevent further incidents. Railway officials emphasized that passenger safety, cleanliness, and food hygiene remain the highest priorities. The corporation also reaffirmed that strict penalties will be enforced against suppliers failing to comply with safety protocols in the future.
The incident underscores the importance of constant monitoring and regulation of food services on trains, especially high-profile services like Vande Bharat Express. Authorities have assured passengers that corrective actions will be continuously monitored, and further complaints will be investigated promptly to maintain standards and public confidence.
