Disruption in metro services between Dumdum and Dakshineswar; normal services resume after 2 hours
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday said the Vande Metro will be ready by December this year and will help the job seekers and students to travel from one city to another while saving time.
Addressing the media, Vaishnaw said the Vande Metro will be a different format from Vande Bharat. He added the Vande Metro can ply between cities with a distance of less than 100 kilometres, adding they are comfortable and affordable, as per reports.
The Railways Minister said the Vande Metro will help in saving the commuters’ travelling time. “This will enable job seekers and students to get world-class transport from one city to another while saving time. Along with this, it will also help in reducing the pressure of congestion on local trains,” he said.
Asserting Prime Minister Narendra Modi has in the last nine years made India a “powerhouse of export in several sectors”, Vaishnaw said a “dedicated track” is essential to emerge as an exporter in the Railway sector.
“In the last nine years, PM Modi made India a powerhouse of export in several sectors. For India to emerge as an exporter in the Railway sector too, a dedicated test track is essential. Work is ongoing rapidly on it. It will yield major benefits,” he said.
Earlier in February, Vaishnaw said that the Prime Minister asked him after the success of Vande Bharat to develop a world-class regional train. “The Prime Minister has given the target this year. After the success of the Vande Bharat train, PM asked us to develop a new world-class regional train, which will be Vande Metro,” he then said.
