Another KMC councillor, Biswajit Mondal arrested, after woman alleges molestation and threats
Tension gripped the Belur area ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 after local residents intercepted a vehicle bearing a BJP sticker on suspicion of transporting illegal cash. The car was stopped while leaving a residential complex on J.N. Mukherjee Road, where multiple bags inside the vehicle raised concerns among locals, prompting immediate intervention and alerting authorities.
A large team of police along with central security forces reached the spot following the incident. A magistrate was informed to oversee the inspection process, ensuring that the bags found inside the vehicle could be opened in an official and transparent manner. The situation quickly drew attention as speculation intensified over the contents of the vehicle.
Rumours of cash recovery from the BJP-stickered vehicle soon spread across the Bally Assembly constituency, escalating tensions and leading to clashes between rival political supporters. Several people were reportedly injured in the violence that followed. Police later arrested three Trinamool Congress workers on charges of attacking BJP supporters, while the incident further heightened the already charged political atmosphere ahead of polling.
