In a shocking incident that occurred during a Ram Navami procession in the Howrah area, several vehicles were set ablaze and stones were pelted, causing chaos and panic in the area. The incident happened on Tuesday evening when a group of people participating in the procession suddenly turned violent.
According to eyewitnesses, the situation quickly escalated, and soon, a group of people started setting vehicles parked on the roadside on fire. The police and fire department were immediately alerted, and they rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
"We have deployed armed personnel from regular police, crime branch, SOG and State Reserve Police Force. As of now, there are no reports of anyone getting injured due to the stone pelting. We have ordered an inquiry into the incident," said Manoj Ninama, additional commissioner of police.
The incident has also led to traffic snarls in the area, causing inconvenience to the commuters. The police have assured that they will take all necessary steps to prevent any further untoward incidents and have urged the public to cooperate with them in maintaining law and order in the area.
