Veteran actor Dheeraj Kumar, a familiar face from iconic films such as "Roti Kapada Aur Makaan" and "Sargam," passed away on Tuesday, July 15, in Mumbai. The actor, aged 79, had been battling a prolonged illness in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and succumbed to his condition despite extensive medical efforts. His demise marks a significant loss for the Indian film fraternity, which he enriched with his versatile performances over decades.

Dheeraj Kumar was admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai due to severe respiratory issues. Despite being placed on ventilator support in the ICU, his health deteriorated. The actor had reportedly been diagnosed with acute pneumonia, which led to his critical condition and eventual passing.

Just hours before his demise on Monday, his family had issued a statement to the public, acknowledging his critical health status and appealing for prayers. The statement read, "The family requests prayers for his speedy recovery and urges everyone to respect their privacy during this difficult time," indicating the gravity of his health battle.

The family also took the opportunity to express their gratitude to the media, fans, and well-wishers for their outpouring of prayers and support during this challenging period. This gesture highlighted the deep connection Dheeraj Kumar had with his admirers throughout his career.

Dheeraj Kumar, though less frequently seen in public in recent years, maintained a quiet presence. His last known public appearance was at the inauguration ceremony of the ISKCON temple in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, an event that offered a rare glimpse of the veteran actor.

His career, spanning several decades, saw him portray a diverse range of characters, leaving an indelible mark on Hindi cinema. While films like "Roti Kapada Aur Makaan" and "Sargam" stand out, his contribution extended to numerous other projects, solidifying his reputation as a respected and talented actor. His passing leaves a void in the industry and among his legion of fans.
