Vibhakar Shastri, the grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, has resigned from the Indian National Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. The resignation was announced via a tweet on Wednesday, wherein he cited his decision to join the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to further the vision of 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan', originally championed by his grandfather. The formal joining ceremony took place in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, along with several other BJP leaders.
Shastri's departure from the Congress comes amidst a wave of resignations from the party, coinciding with the impending Lok Sabha elections. Earlier this week, veteran Maharashtra Congress leader Ashok Chavan also parted ways with the Congress and joined the BJP, signaling a significant shift in the political landscape. The trend underscores a broader reconfiguration of political alliances as the country braces for the upcoming elections.
