Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
The woman who has accused Mohammad Jasimuddin, councillor of Ward No. 39 in Kolkata, of sexual harassment once again took to the streets on Monday, staging a strong protest demanding justice. She organised a condemnation rally from 109 MG Road to the College Street–MG Road crossing, where slogans of “Jasimuddin murdabad” were raised throughout the demonstration.
The protest led to temporary traffic disruption at the MG Road crossing, causing inconvenience to commuters and the general public. During the rally, protesters burned an effigy of Councillor Mohammad Jasimuddin, further escalating tension in the area. Police reached the spot after receiving information and eventually brought the situation under control.
The victim alleged that the case dates back three and a half years, when she had first filed a complaint of sexual harassment against the councillor. She said the matter is currently pending in court, but justice has eluded her so far. She also claimed she has been facing continuous pressure and harassment in connection with the case.
Making serious allegations, the victim said that police from New Market Police Station had recently come to her house and allegedly attempted to forcibly drag her father, resulting in serious injuries and broken bones. She described this as an attempt to intimidate her into withdrawing the case and demanded security and direct intervention from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, warning of intensified protests if justice is denied.
