Trump asks Apple CEO not to manufacture in India, says 'they can take care of themselves'
Actor Vijay Deverakonda has issued a public apology and clarification after facing backlash for allegedly derogatory comments made about tribal communities during an event in Hyderabad. A police complaint was filed against the actor following his remarks linking the Pahalgam terror attack to what he described as tribal-like behavior “500 years ago”. The actor has since clarified his intention and expressed “sincere regret” over any hurt caused.
Speaking at the audio launch of his film Retro, Vijay referred to terrorist actions as “mindless” and compared them to ancient tribal conflicts. The statement triggered outrage among several individuals and rights activists, with a complaint being lodged alleging that the actor had demeaned Scheduled Tribes. The complainant argued that Vijay’s comparison was offensive and dismissive of tribal heritage.
In a detailed post on X, Vijay clarified that his use of the term “tribe” was historical and not directed at India’s Scheduled Tribes. He explained that he was referring to an era centuries ago when human society was organised into clans and tribes, often engaged in conflict. He emphasised that his words were misinterpreted and were never meant to belittle any group.
Vijay reiterated his respect for tribal communities, calling them “an integral part of India”. He explained that his speech at the event focused on unity, progress, and collective national identity. He added that in no way did he intend to target or isolate any community while addressing the issue of terrorism in Kashmir.
The actor concluded his statement with an apology to those hurt by his words. He pledged to use his public platforms responsibly and continue promoting messages of unity and peace. “If any part of my message was misunderstood or hurtful, I express my sincere regret,” he said, vowing to uplift and not divide.
The controversy comes in the wake of heightened national sensitivity after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, where 28 tourists were killed. Vijay’s comments, although aimed at condemning terrorism, were seen by some as inappropriate in tone and content, prompting legal action and calls for accountability.
