Vandalism in Howrah over controversial painting during Durga Puja; 30 arrested
In Muzaffarpur, Bihar, a jackal that had terrorized several villages for a week was killed by residents on Tuesday. The jackal had bitten and injured around 20 people across Purshottampur village in Kudhni block, as well as in Mushari block. Locals, who were deeply troubled by the frequent attacks, finally beat the animal to death with sticks.
For days, the forest department had placed cages in various locations, attempting to capture the jackal, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Villagers, tired and frightened, organized a search for the animal and, upon finding it, took matters into their own hands. The jackal attempted to attack the crowd during the confrontation but was overpowered.
In one of the worst incidents, the jackal injured a dozen children in Sherpur Bangra village, causing panic across the region. Families stayed awake at night, afraid of another attack. The community is now relieved, as the animal no longer poses a threat.
