Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Dr. Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon, the Lok Sabha MP from Shillong and senior leader of the Voice of the People Party (VPP), passed away at age 54 after collapsing during a friendly futsal session in Shillong's Mawlai Mawiong area. He was rushed first to a community health centre and then to Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital in Jaiaw, where doctors declared him dead around 8:45 pm despite revival efforts; a cardiac arrest is suspected. Known for his dedication to Meghalaya's people, and grassroots outreach across Khasi-Jaintia Hills, Syngkon had won the Shillong seat in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences, stating Syngkon "will be remembered for his dedicated service to the people of Meghalaya" and offering thoughts to his family and supporters. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma described him as a "dedicated and compassionate leader" with "humility, vision, and unwavering commitment," while Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong and VPP chief Ardent Basaiawmoit rushed to the hospital along with other leaders. Political figures across party lines mourned his active public engagements and efforts raising regional issues in Parliament.
