Water scare at Indore again! Nine fall ill after reportedly consuming contaminated water

At least nine people fell ill after consuming contaminated drinking water in Mhow tehsil of Indore district, weeks after seven deaths were officially linked to water contamination in Bhagirathpura. The fresh cases were reported from the Patti Bazaar and Chander Marg areas on Thursday night, raising renewed concerns over water safety in the region.

Officials said nine patients were hospitalised, while a few others with mild symptoms are recovering at home. Health teams were rushed to the affected localities, and treatment was initiated immediately to prevent further spread of water-borne diseases.

Indore Collector Shivam Verma visited the hospital late at night to review the situation and interact with patients and local residents. He directed the health department to ensure effective treatment for all affected individuals and asked the Mhow Cantonment Board to urgently test water quality and improve sanitation.

Verma said the administration is closely monitoring the situation and that surveys will be conducted in the affected areas to identify residents showing symptoms. He added that no patient is currently in critical condition and some are likely to be discharged during the day.

The development comes against the backdrop of last month’s contamination crisis in Bhagirathpura, where multiple illnesses and deaths were reported. Authorities have intensified monitoring and preventive measures to avoid a repeat of such incidents in other parts of Indore district.
