Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Waterlogging continues to affect several areas under Jaigara and Hatiara 2 Number Gram Panchayats in Rajarhat block, even as rainfall intensity reduced on Friday. Local residents are facing daily difficulties due to stagnant water following continuous rain earlier in the week. The situation remains unresolved in multiple pockets of the Panchayats, which are adjacent to New Town.
Panchayat Pradhan Rita Gain visited the affected areas on Friday morning to assess the situation. She was accompanied by members from different political parties affiliated with the Panchayat. Water has also accumulated in front of her own house. During her visit, she spoke with residents to understand their problems and assured them that necessary action would be taken.
Residents said there has been no permanent drainage system in place for years, leading to similar waterlogging every monsoon. They have demanded that the Panchayat and the Urban Development Department take steps to ensure proper drainage and prevent recurring issues. Locals also expressed concern that despite the Panchayat's proximity to a developed area like New Town, basic civic facilities remain underdeveloped.
