The heart of Kolkata, Dharmatala, is buzzing with activity this morning as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) gears up for its mega 'Shahid Diwas' (Martyrs' Day) event in front of Victoria House. Since early hours, party workers and enthusiastic supporters have been steadily gathering, eager to hear the address of 'Didi,' Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee. The sheer size of the crowd is notable, with everyone keenly awaiting the tone Mamata Banerjee will set for the upcoming fight against the BJP ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

For such a high-voltage political gathering, the entire city of Kolkata, particularly the Dharmatala premises, has been enveloped in a tight security cordon. Police patrols are actively monitoring the streets, and vehicle movement is being meticulously controlled since the morning to manage the massive influx of people and ensure public safety throughout the event.

Adding a unique touch to the spectacle, Dr. Debashis Sarkar, the Asansol Municipal Corporation Borough Chairman, was seen personally driving a bus, transporting supporters to the Dharmatala venue. This act of direct involvement by a prominent local leader highlights the dedication and enthusiasm within the party ranks, contributing to the grassroots mobilization efforts for the rally.

Thousands of Trinamool workers and supporters have embarked on their journey to Dharmatala from as far as Gangasagar, demonstrating the widespread reach and appeal of the event. Sundarbans Development Minister Bankim Chandra Hazra was among the thousands who set off by boat from Kachuberia Vessel Ghat in South 24 Parganas, with party flags prominently displayed, signifying their collective solidarity and determination.

A key aspect of the day's arrangements is the Calcutta High Court's directive to the police, stipulating that no procession will be permitted to advance towards Dharmatala after 9 AM. This order aimed to ensure that all workers and supporters from various districts reached the meeting venue before the cut-off time, facilitating smoother crowd management.
