WB Congress protests KMC parking fee hike

Congress workers held a protest against the recent hike in parking fees by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation at the corporation headquarters' gate in central Kolkata. The protest was met with a large police presence to prevent any untoward incident.

Youth Congress workers, led by North Kolkata president Suman Pal, attempted to scale the barricades to protest against the increased parking fees. The protesters demanded that the hike be reduced immediately, warning of larger agitations if their demands were not met.

Pal highlighted the burden on ordinary citizens, stating that even teachers had to pay up to Rs. 600 per day to park their vehicles while they went to work.

The Congress workers burned an effigy of Mayor Firhad Hakim and raised anti-corporation slogans during the protest. They also threatened to forcibly lock the Kolkata Municipal Corporation if the increased parking fee was not withdrawn soon.

State Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is expected to lead any future agitations in this regard.
