WB Municipal appointment scandal: Central agency officers seize 1,000+ OMR sheets

In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials investigating the teacher recruitment corruption in West Bengal have discovered a wealth of new evidence. CBI sources revealed on Friday that they have recovered approximately 18 to 20 thousand pages of documents during raids conducted in 14 municipalities across the state. Notably, the documents obtained from four municipalities include around 1000 Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets, which should not have been stored within municipal premises as per regulations. The CBI team has initiated an inquiry into the reasons behind their presence and the individuals responsible.

According to sources within the central agency, a list of names has been compiled based on the individuals whose OMR sheets were found. The investigation will commence by interrogating these individuals one by one. It is important to note that all of them are currently employed in municipal positions.

The recovered OMR sheets associated with appointments in municipalities were found in the possession of Ayan Sheel, a former leader of the Trinamool Congress who has since been expelled and arrested in connection with the teacher appointment corruption case. Sheel is believed to be the mastermind behind the corruption scheme.
