The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police has arrested three operatives of an interstate arms smuggling racket red-handed. They have been identified as Srilal Mandal (53), a resident of Munger in Bihar, Kaushar Sheikh (42), a resident of Nawada in Murshidabad district and Sudeep Khan (25), a resident of Hariharpara.
STF SP Indrajit Basu gave information about this on Tuesday morning. He told that concrete information had been received that there is to be an exchange of arms at Katwa station. After this the STF team laid siege here and nabbed all three when they were dealing with each other in arms.
It is learned that Shrilal Mandal had brought the guns from Munger in Bihar and the other two smugglers, residents of Murshidabad, were about to buy and take them away. Three 7.65 mm pistols, 14 bullets and six empty magazines have been recovered from them. These people were engaged in exchanging weapons at Katwa station itself.
Therefore, the Government Railway Police (GRP) at the station has initiated legal action against all of them by registering a case under sections of the Arms Act. By interrogating them, it is being ascertained that how many weapons they have transacted in this way.
