West Bengal Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has strongly reacted to reports indicating that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) plans to allocate only two out of the state's 42 Lok Sabha seats to the Congress in the upcoming general elections. Speaking to media persons in Berhampore, Chowdhury asserted that "the Congress does not need mercy from Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee".
He highlighted the history of the Congress winning in the proposed two seats and rejected the TMC's offer, emphasizing that the Congress can win more seats in West Bengal independently. Chowdhury also challenged Mamata Banerjee to contest from Berhampore and criticized her proposal to field Priyanka Gandhi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi.
“Mamata Banerjee has proposed to leave two seats for the Congress. We defeated her in those two seats. Not once, but twice. Why should we ask for her mercy in those two seats?” Chowdhury said.
Chowdhury stated that the rejection of this proposal is not an attempt to save the two seats but a demonstration of the Congress's strength in the state. He challenged Mamata Banerjee to contest against him in Berhampore, emphasizing the Congress's ability to win seats like Purulia, Malda, Raiganj, Darjeeling, and Basirhat independently.
“We can win more seats in West Bengal with our own strength. We can win Purulia, Malda, Raiganj, Darjeeling, and Basirhat. We have the strength to fight,” Chowdhury said.
