West Bengal has won the ISPAD 2025 Award from the International Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes for its innovation in paediatric diabetes care. The recognition honours the state’s health initiative focused on managing Type 1 Diabetes among children and adolescents. The award has been given to the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Government of West Bengal for implementing structured and inclusive healthcare strategies in this area.
According to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, this is a "groundbreaking public health initiative" that has now received "global laurel." She shared the announcement stating, “I congratulate our Health Department, doctors and others in the team for this great achievement!” She also said, “ISPAD 2025 is not just an award — it is Bengal Government’s footprint on the global health care.” The initiative was developed and executed by the department to address early diagnosis, access to treatment, and follow-up care for children with Type 1 Diabetes.
The programme recognized by ISPAD is part of the state’s broader health policy aimed at strengthening services for non-communicable diseases in younger populations. The award signifies international acknowledgment of the state’s model and implementation under the Health and Family Welfare Department.
