Temperatures dip below 15 degrees Celsius in Kolkata, reaching a minimum of 14.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, one degree below the normal range. According to the Meteorological Department, this winter spell is anticipated to persist until Saturday, accompanied by light to moderate fog in the early morning hours. South Bengal is expected to witness a further drop in temperature, with the western districts experiencing lows of around 10 degrees Celsius.
The influence of free wind is projected to intensify gradually in the region, keeping night temperatures consistent in the coming days. The Met forecasts the possibility of rain and snow in the hilly districts of North Bengal within the next 24 hours.
There is a slight chance of light rain and hail over Darjeeling and Kalimpong, while the higher altitudes of Sikkim and Darjeeling might witness snowfall. Light rain is anticipated in the upper five districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri on Wednesday. Meanwhile, light to moderate fog is expected to prevail over several districts, with temperatures remaining below 15 degrees Celsius in Kolkata.
The meteorological outlook indicates clear skies on Wednesday and a potential four-day long spell. The maximum temperature on Tuesday afternoon was 24.9 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal.
