West Bengal government conducts review amid rising COVID-19 cases nationwide

In response to the escalating COVID-19 cases nationwide, the West Bengal government has undertaken a comprehensive review of the situation. A senior official from the state health department assured on Wednesday that the COVID-19 situation in West Bengal remains under control, and the administration is well-prepared to handle any potential emergency.

The review follows the detection of the new variant of the coronavirus, 'JN.1', in Kerala, prompting the Center to advise states to exercise caution. The official said, “Not a single case of the new form of corona virus ‘JN.1’ has been reported in West Bengal. However, we are prepared with our infrastructure to face any situation. Isolation wards are ready at Beleghata ID Hospital and MR Bangur Hospital, he said.

The official said, “Following the instructions of the Health Ministry, an inspection was conducted in both the hospitals. Also, the CCU, ICU beds and medical-oxygen supply pipeline were also reviewed. The Union Health Ministry had sent a letter to the states and union territories on Monday, in which the new form of corona virus 'JN.1' was detected before just fter the matter was detected, necessary steps were asked to be taken.
