In a significant development aimed at empowering students and easing the admission process, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Board has announced the introduction of 'mock-allotment' for the first time during the counseling process for Joint Admission Engineering (JEE).
The announcement was made by Malayendu Saha, Chairman of the State Joint Admission Board, during the official inauguration of a three-day pre-counseling fair organized by the Association of Professional Academic Institutions (APAI).
Chairman Malayendu Saha emphasized the importance of providing students with ample time to assess their admission possibilities before finalizing their choice. During this period, students will have the opportunity to view the 'mock-allotment,' which will allocate seats based on their preferences and the availability of seats in their chosen institutes. This new feature will enable students to make informed decisions regarding their choice of institute and subject.
The purpose of the mock-allotment is to allow students to gauge their chances of obtaining admission to their preferred institute and course. If a student finds that they are not being allotted their desired institute or subject, they will have the option to modify their choices before the first round of seat allotment. Once satisfied with their choices, students can lock their preferences.
The counseling process is scheduled to commence shortly after the completion of the JEE Advanced second round on July 11. The gap that previously existed due to students withdrawing after admission will no longer be an issue. All necessary preparations for the counseling process have been completed to ensure a smooth and efficient admission procedure.
Chairman Malayendu Saha further stated that the counseling process will begin within five days of receiving the seat matrix. Additionally, this year will witness the introduction of mop-up rounds and new registrations before the final round of counseling, providing further opportunities for students seeking admission.
Speaking at the event, Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim highlighted the global impact of Bengali talents in the field of technology, stating that they are being hired by companies in America and London. He attributed their success to the brilliance of the Bengali mind. Minister Hakim also acknowledged that computer education was not allowed during the previous Left regime, leading to the state's initial backwardness. However, under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, numerous private universities and colleges have been established in the state over the past decade, significantly expanding educational opportunities for students.
The event witnessed the presence of Minister Shobhandev Chattopadhyay, State Technical and Vocational Education Council Chairman Purnendu Bose, WBJEE Board Vice-Chairperson Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee, and Organizing Organization Chairman and JIS Group Managing Director Taranjit Singh.
