Sodepur flyover to shut every weekend from July 19 for urgent structural repairs
The West Bengal Medical Council has suspended the medical registration of Dr. Santanu Sen for two years after charges of using an unregistered foreign medical degree were found valid. He will not be allowed to practise medicine during this suspension period. The hearing was held on Thursday after the council issued a formal summons to Dr. Sen regarding the matter.
According to Rogi Kalyan Samiti Chairman Sudipta Roy, the complaint involved the usage of a foreign FRCP degree without informing the West Bengal Medical Council. The council concluded that the degree had been used in violation of council regulations. It was alleged that Dr. Sen had continued treating patients while using this unapproved qualification for an extended period.
Dr. Sen responded by denying the allegations, claiming that there was no irregularity and that he had been targeted intentionally. He stated that the FRCP degree was honorary and does not require registration. He also alleged that although he paid ₹10,000 for registration after receiving a council letter, the amount was not refunded.
TMC leader and fellow doctor Nirmal Maji commented that the council’s action was appropriate and confirmed that Santanu Sen had already been suspended from the party. “Santanu Sen has been suspended for his actions. The person he was attacking is our respected leader,” Maji said.
