West Bengal panchayat election: Voting declared void for several areas, SEC announces repolling date

The West Bengal State Election Commission has announced that repolling will be conducted on Monday for multiple panchayat booths that experienced disruptions and violence during the previous polling.'

Tragically, the incidents on Saturday resulted in the loss of at least 17 lives. Both the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP have been trading accusations and allegations regarding the events  The SEC reviewed reports of vote-tampering and violence, which significantly affected polling in various areas, leading to the decision to hold repolling.

The districts with the highest number of booths requiring repolling are as follows:

  • Murshidabad: 175 booths
  • Malda: 112 booths
  • Nadia: 89 booths (affected by violence)
  • North 24 Parganas: 46 booths
  • South 24 Parganas: 36 booths

Additionally, repolling will be conducted in the following booths across different districts:

  • Alipur: 1 booth
  • Bankura: 8 booths
  • Birbhum: 14 booths
  • Cooch Behar: Not specified
  • Dakshin Deenajpur: 18 booths
  • Hooghly: 29 booths
  • Howrah: 8 booths and rest others.

These repolling measures aim to ensure a fair and peaceful electoral process in West Bengal.
