Ravindra Narayan Ravi, currently serving as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, has been given the additional responsibility as the interim Governor of West Bengal. A retired Indian Police Service officer from the 1976 batch of the Kerala cadre, Ravi has had a long career in security and intelligence before moving into constitutional roles.
Ravi completed his postgraduate studies in physics before joining the civil services. During his service, he worked with key investigative and intelligence agencies, including the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Intelligence Bureau, gaining extensive experience in national security and internal affairs. In 2014, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee in the Prime Minister’s Office, a crucial position responsible for coordinating intelligence assessments. He later served as the deputy National Security Advisor in 2018, further strengthening his role in shaping India’s strategic and security framework.
Following his retirement from active service, Ravi was appointed as the Governor of Nagaland and was also given the additional charge of Governor of Meghalaya. He is currently serving as the Governor of Tamil Nadu and will now hold the interim charge of West Bengal as part of the latest administrative arrangement.
