Jailed MLA's wife and Mukhtar Ansari's son Abbas Ansari were arrested for carrying two mobile phones and other objectionable items including cash in Chitrakoot Jail on Saturday.
Police also detained Chitrakoot Jail Warden Ashok Sagar and other jail officials for allowing Nikhat Bano to enter her husband Abbas Ansari's barracks without checking. During a raid on Friday, DM and SP Chitrakoota in civilian clothes caught her with objectionable items.
Additional Director General of Police, Prayagraj Zone, Bhanu Bhaskar said, "For the past few days, we have been receiving information about Abbas's wife entering Chitrakoot jail and meeting him for hours without any checks." "Subsequently, on Friday, District Magistrate Abhishek Anand and Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla reached the jail premises in plainclothes and started the inspection," Bhaskar said.
The ADG said that during the inspection, they first found that Abbas was not in his allotted barrack but was in a room next to the prison warden along with his wife. The police checked her purse and found two mobile phones, cash and foreign currency. The items were confiscated and she was detained.
Later, the DM and SP also took action against jail superintendent Ashok Sagar, deputy superintendent Sushil Kumar, constable Jagmohan and other unidentified jail officials. Police said Abbas used his wife's cell phone to make extortion calls to businessmen, threaten witnesses in cases in which he is accused and warn prosecutors to stay away from his cases.
