BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw, who was detained by Pakistani Rangers after allegedly crossing the international border near Ferozepur on April 23, was released and handed over to Indian authorities on May 14 at the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar. The 35-year-old jawan had been in Pakistani custody for 21 days. The Border Security Force (BSF) had immediately initiated communication with their counterparts in Pakistan through flag meetings and official channels to seek his safe return.
Following the jawan’s return, his wife expressed gratitude and recalled previous military action. She said, “When PM Modi is there, everything is possible. When the Pulwama attack happened on April 22, he avenged all the ‘suhaag’ within 15–20 days and launched Operation Sindoor. After 4–5 days, he brought the ‘suhaag’ back. That’s why I express my heartfelt gratitude for my ‘suhaag’.”
The BSF confirmed the successful handover at the Attari Joint Check Post and stated that the jawan would undergo a detailed medical examination and debriefing as per standard procedure. The release followed a series of diplomatic efforts and border-level talks, after initial delays caused by non-participation from the Pakistani side in one of the scheduled meetings.
