Wife sets herself on fire to scare drunk husband in Liluah, Howrah

In a tragic turn of events, 19-year-old Sushmita Das set herself on fire in a domestic dispute with her husband in Liluah, Howrah. The incident occurred around midnight at a rented house in Bhattnagar Arvind Nagar, where Sushmita and her 25-year-old husband, Abhi Das, lived. Abhi, a pathologist by profession, was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident. He was known to have struggled with alcohol addiction, which had reportedly led to conflicts between the couple.

According to reports, the argument between the couple intensified after Abhi returned home drunk. In an attempt to scare him, Sushmita doused herself with kerosene. However, despite her actions, Abhi reportedly went to sleep. The situation took a critical turn when a neighbor, who smelled smoke coming from the house, broke open the door to find Sushmita severely burned. She had suffered 70% burns. The neighbor immediately took her to the hospital.

Sushmita was admitted to Howrah Hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment for her burns. Liluah police were notified about the incident and arrested her husband, Abhi Das, for his involvement. He was taken into custody and presented before Howrah Court for further legal proceedings. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
