Winds reaching 88 kmph batter Kolkata; heavy rainfall predicted tomorrow too

A powerful squall swept across Kolkata and adjoining areas on Thursday afternoon, with wind speeds reaching 88 kmph in Alipore and 74 kmph in Dumdum, according to the Meteorological Department. The squall moved over Alipore in Kolkata district from a northwesterly direction between 2:45 pm and 2:47 pm, while Dumdum in North 24 Parganas experienced the weather system between 2:29 pm and 2:30 pm. The Meteorological Department stated that the maximum wind speed recorded in Alipore was 88 kmph, while Dumdum registered a peak wind speed of 74 kmph. The weather event was accompanied by thunderstorms and rainfall across several parts of the city and surrounding districts. The Meteorological Department has forecast further thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain on Saturday.
