Wolf attacks in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, have escalated, with two more victims reported last night. An elderly person and a child suffered minor injuries from what is believed to be wolf attacks. The forest department had surrounded two wolves involved in the attacks, but both managed to escape. Efforts are now underway to locate these wolves using drones, with officials confident that the wolves will be captured by Monday.
Dr. Ashish Verma, in charge of Mahsi CHC, reported that while the injuries sustained by both victims were not severe, the nature of the attacks is under investigation. One victim recounted an attack at 4 am, describing the animal as larger than a jackal but unable to confirm it as a wolf. He recounted a terrifying struggle, where he managed to fend off the animal from his neck.
A relative of the injured child provided further details, saying the attack occurred around 1:30 am. The child was assaulted by a wolf, who fled into a sugarcane field after being startled by their screams. Footprints of the wolf were found near the house, confirming its presence.
This incident is part of a broader issue in Bahraich and surrounding villages, where a pack of six wolves has been responsible for the deaths of eight people, mostly children. The forest department has launched Operation Bhediya to address the threat. Four wolves have been captured so far, but two remain at large, posing a continued risk to the community.
