A 55-year-old woman, Romina Begum, was found murdered in her home in Ranikamath village, under the jurisdiction of Chanchal police station in Malda district, early on Wednesday morning. According to police reports, the woman lived with her granddaughter. The assailant, wearing a mask, reportedly entered the house during the night, attacked Romina while she was sleeping, and struck her head with an iron rod. The victim's granddaughter, who was present at the time, witnessed the brutal assault and later alerted the authorities.
Chanchal police, including Sub-Divisional Police Officer Somnath Saha and Chanchal Police Station's Officer in Charge Purnendu Kundu, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Forensic experts and a large police team were involved in securing evidence and collecting statements. The victim’s body was sent for post-mortem examination at Malda Medical College and Hospital.
