Woman alleges assault by 2 men claiming BJP links in South Dum Dum, both arrested

A case involving alleged intimidation and assault at a woman’s shop in the Dum Dum Road area under Ward No. 16 of the South Dum Dum Municipality came to light. According to the complaint lodged by the woman, two individuals allegedly arrived at her shop and told her that she would not be allowed to continue operating the business at that location. The woman further alleged that the two identified themselves as BJP supporters and declared, “I am the BJP; my word is final.” She also accused them of verbally abusing and physically assaulting her during the altercation.

Following the incident, the woman approached Nagerbazar Police Station and filed a formal complaint regarding the alleged threats and assault. Acting on the basis of the complaint, police arrested two accused individuals identified as Shyamal Goswami and Suroj Sau. Police officials have initiated an investigation into the incident and are examining the allegations made in the complaint regarding intimidation, abuse, and physical assault at the shop premises.

BJP sources stated that the arrested individuals have no connection with the party and asserted that the BJP has never supported or endorsed such conduct. The incident created tension in the locality after details of the complaint became known among local residents. Police continued legal proceedings against the accused following the arrests made by Nagerbazar Police Station.
