Medical reports confirm rape of Kolkata Law college student; Assault & bite marks found
A fire broke out early Tuesday morning at a residence in Shantinagar, Station Road area of Liluah, Howrah, resulting in the death of a Gujarati woman identified as Amrita Jethani. She lived alone on the ground floor of house number 12. According to local residents, the woman had no electricity or gas connection in the house and regularly cooked food using paper, wood, and coal in the veranda outside her home. On the day of the incident, she reportedly lit a fire early in the morning inside the house to cook food following a night of rainfall.
Residents stated that the fire intensified suddenly and spread within the house. Amrita, reportedly frightened by the flames, ran inside the house. Locals found her lying on the floor with nearly 80 percent burns. Police and the fire department reached the location shortly after and transported her to a hospital, where she later died from the injuries. There was no mention of any other occupants or injuries at the scene.
An investigation has been initiated by the police to determine the exact cause of the fire. The body was sent for post-mortem examination. According to residents, Amrita had been mentally disturbed after the death of her parents and had been living alone for a considerable time. The incident occurred around dawn, and there were no immediate reports of structural damage to surrounding homes.
