Another KMC councillor, Biswajit Mondal arrested, after woman alleges molestation and threats
A woman travelling on the Anand Vihar–Puri Weekly Express delivered a healthy baby on Sasaram railway station’s platform on Monday after experiencing labour pains during the journey. The delivery took place on platform number 3 with the assistance of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and nursing staff. Both mother and newborn were later taken to the trauma centre at Sadar Hospital by ambulance, where they were reported to be in good health.
According to railway officials, information was received that a passenger in coach S6, berth number 02, of train number 18428 Down was experiencing severe labour pains after the train passed Mughalsarai. RPF Inspector Sanjeev Kumar and Station Manager Kaushal Kishore Pandey arranged a team of female staff equipped with a stretcher to be present at Sasaram station before the train’s arrival. Nursing staff Nutan Kumari and Sanna, along with staff member Kiran Kumari and sanitation workers, conducted the delivery on the platform using available resources.
The woman was identified as Neelu Kumari, daughter of Pappu Das, a resident of Bhaywar Sikaria village in Jehanabad district. She was travelling from her in-laws’ house in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh, to her parental home, accompanied by her father and brother. The family informed railway authorities when the labour pains began, which led to immediate arrangements for medical assistance at the next station.
Following the delivery, RPF personnel transported the mother and baby to Sadar Hospital by ambulance. The family thanked the RPF and station staff for their help, and passengers present on the platform acknowledged the quick coordination that ensured a safe delivery.
