Passengers and staff at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station shocked today morning when an unknown woman was found lying lifeless inside the waiting room. GRP personnel on routine morning checking spotted the woman on the floor around dawn. Immediately called for medical help, but doctors who arrived soon declared her dead. No one in the crowded station could recognise her or say how long she had been there.
The woman appeared to be in her late thirties or early forties and was carrying no bag or identification papers. Government Railway Police (GRP) have and sent the body for post-mortem to find out the exact cause of death – whether it was illness or something else. CCTV cameras around the station are being scanned to see when she entered the waiting room and whether she was alone or with someone.
Until the autopsy report comes and someone comes forward to claim the body, the death remains a complete mystery. Such incidents remind everyone how busy railway stations sometimes become the last stop for someone who dies with no one to help. GRP has appealed to the public for any information that could help identify the woman and inform her family.
