A tragic incident unfolded ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 as a 48-year-old woman, travelling home to cast her vote, died after falling ill on the Uttarbanga Express. The deceased, Mithu Kundu, was a resident of Cooch Behar, with her home located near the Ras Mela Ground. She had been living in Rajasthan and was returning specifically to participate in the voting process scheduled in her constituency.
According to details, Mithu Kundu boarded the Uttarbanga Express from Sealdah on Tuesday night along with her family members. On Wednesday, as the train was nearing Maynaguri station, she suddenly developed health complications. Railway authorities were immediately alerted, following which prompt steps were taken to provide assistance and ensure medical attention at the earliest.
With the help of the Government Railway Police and railway staff, she was deboarded at Maynaguri station and given primary treatment.
