Parade begins at Red Road to celebrate India's 76th Republic Day
A severed head, suspected to be that of a woman, was discovered on Friday morning in a garbage vat behind a multi-storied building in Kolkata’s Golf Green area. Local residents spotted the head, wrapped in a white packet, and alerted the police immediately.
Police officials, including DC SSD Bidisha Kalita, arrived at the scene to investigate. A forensic team has been deployed to examine the head and gather evidence. Authorities are working to identify the victim and determine whether other body parts are located nearby or at a different site.
Investigators are analyzing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to track any individuals involved in disposing of the head. Despite the area being densely populated, no clear leads have emerged yet about the timing or manner in which the head was dumped. Residents in the locality are being questioned to identify any unusual activity.
This discovery comes months after a similar incident in Khidderpore in April, where dismembered body parts of a woman were found wrapped in plastic bags. Police are considering all angles in the current case, including the possibility of connections to earlier incidents. They have requested the public’s assistance and urged anyone with information to come forward.
