A 23-year-old man allegedly shot dead a 42-year-old woman outside her house in Vaishali in southwest Delhi's Dabri Extension on Thursday evening and later killed himself minutes later using the same country-made pistol on the terrace of the trio. - apartment building in the same neighborhood where he lived with his family in a rented apartment, police said Friday.
Senior officers said the two met at a local gym about two years ago, but the woman's in-laws did not approve of their friendship, especially her husband. Investigators are investigating whether the murder-suicide case is related to their acquaintance. A preliminary investigation revealed they were still talking to each other, police said.
"What exactly prompted the man, identified by the first name Ashish, to kill Renu Goyal's wife before killing himself is under investigation." No suicide note was found on Ashish or from his house. We are talking to the members of both the families, their relatives, neighbors and friends to find clues that can help us in the cause of the murder-suicide,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Harsha Vardhan said.
Vardhan said the Dabri police station received information about the murder case in Vaishali area at 8.45 pm on Thursday. A police team found the body of a woman who had been shot at black range outside her home. The bullet pierced the head from the right temple.
On enquiry, it was found that she was a housewife and is survived by three children and a real estate businessman husband. “It was not immediately clear who shot Goyal. CCTV cameras were scanned. It was discovered that a man approached her and shot her at close range. He then left the area. Through a human intelligence network, we came to know about her friendship with a man (Ashish) and that there were problems in her family because of their friendship,” said Vardhan.
A police team led by an inspector went to Ashish's house, which is a five-minute walk from the spot of the murder, and met his family members. The family said he left home in the evening and did not return. When the team searched for him, they found his body with a gunshot wound to the right temple on the terrace. A country pistol was found in his right hand, indicating that he had shot himself, the DCP said. People living in the building told police they did not hear the gunshot because a birthday party was taking place nearby. Ashish's family hails from Barauth in Uttar Pradesh, police said.
"Investigators are scanning the mobile phones of Goyal and Ashish to see if there were any text messages that could help them find out if there are serious problems between them." There is a possibility that the woman was trying to back out of the friendship and Ashish didn't like it. The source of the firearm is also being investigated," said the police officer on condition of anonymity. A case of murder has been registered, the police added.
