TMC leader shot in Bhatpara during Naihati by-election; Bomb blasts add to tensions
In Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, a woman named Varsha threw acid on her ex-lover, Vivek, during a meeting at a local restaurant. The confrontation occurred in the morning, and just minutes into their conversation, Varsha suddenly pulled out a bottle of acid from her bag and splashed it on Vivek’s face. He sustained severe burn injuries, particularly on his arm, and fled the restaurant before the police could arrive.
According to Varsha, her drastic action was driven by years of alleged blackmail from Vivek. She claimed that he had been threatening her for money while promising to marry her but instead continued to harass her. “He was blackmailing me and asking for money. That's why I threw acid on him,” Varsha explained. The incident has drawn considerable attention due to the complex history between the two, as Varsha is previously married and divorced.
The restaurant manager, Deepak Garg, described the chaotic scene, stating that Varsha arrived first and that Vivek came in shortly after. After ordering food, the situation escalated, leading to the acid attack. Following the incident, Varsha was taken into police custody and received medical treatment for burns she also suffered during the altercation. Assistant Commissioner of Police Mayank Pathak confirmed that Vivek is currently on the run. Authorities are actively searching for him and are investigating the allegations of blackmail made by Varsha.
“We are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence to understand the sequence of events,” Pathak said, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the investigation. As the police work to uncover the full story behind the relationship between Varsha and Vivek, they are focused on determining the truth of the alleged blackmail and the circumstances that led to this extreme act of violence.
