Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A confrontation between local BJP workers and traffic police personnel at Mhow Naka Square in Indore on Friday afternoon led to the suspension of two police personnel and the removal of a traffic inspector from her post. The dispute began during a helmet-checking drive when BJP assembly constituency in-charge Virendra Shendge was stopped by traffic police officials.
According to police officials, Shendge was stopped because he was allegedly riding a motorcycle while talking on a mobile phone. Shendge, however, claimed that a police official stepped in front of his moving motorcycle and physically assaulted him. He alleged that he was stopped at the signal and slapped during the altercation. Senior police officials later stated that preliminary examination of CCTV footage did not show Shendge using a mobile phone at the time.
The situation escalated after the argument between the BJP leader and traffic personnel. A large number of BJP workers gathered at Mhow Naka Square and staged a road blockade demanding immediate action against the officials involved. Videos of the incident circulated on social media, showing heated exchanges at the spot during the protest.
Following the protest, constable Shekhar and subedar Lakshmi were suspended, while Traffic Inspector Radha Yadav was removed from her post and transferred to police headquarters. Yadav stated that CCTV footage would show she was not present when the argument initially began. Police also said the role of all individuals involved in the incident would be examined.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Shivendu Joshi said a detailed investigation was underway and authorities were reviewing all available CCTV footage and video recordings. He stated that further legal action would be taken based on the evidence collected during the inquiry.
