Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is winning in the northeastern states as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's work is reaching the public.
"The simple reason for the way the BJP is winning in the Northeast and gaining people's support is that PM Modi's work is reaching the public," Rijiju said in the said report. "That's the pattern. If we win the elections, it means that we will gain the trust of the people," he added.
Rijiju, Member of Parliament from Arunachal West Lok Sabha constituency, further said that he would only have "BJP's impact in all the states in the North East". Voting is currently underway in the three northeastern states of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.
According to the Election Commission, the National People's Party (NPP) was leading with 23 seats in Meghalaya, while the United Democratic Party (UDP) was leading with 8 seats. The chief minister's Conrad K Sangma said the NPP was a few seats short of a majority, adding that the NPP would decide on the next course of action after the final results.
In Nagaland, the BJP was leading with 11 seats with two victories confirmed. The NDPP led by 16 seats with 9 confirmed victories. In Tripura, BJP was leading with 21 seats with 12 confirmed victories while TMP was leading with 7 seats with 5 confirmed victories.
