Worker dies after falling from factory roof on Old Calcutta Road in Barrackpore

A worker died after falling from the roof of a factory on Old Calcutta Road in Barrackpore, North 24 Parganas district, triggering questions over workplace safety. The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Mitra. The incident occurred while he was installing a shed on the factory rooftop.

According to available information, Pradeep allegedly lost his balance during the work and fell from a considerable height onto the ground below. Co-workers and local residents rushed him to B.N. Bose Sub Divisional Hospital in critical condition, but doctors declared him dead after a preliminary examination on arrival.

The incident has sparked grief and anger among fellow workers, with concerns raised over whether adequate safety measures such as helmets and safety belts were provided. Police have sent the body for post-mortem and initiated an investigation to ascertain whether the death was accidental or involved negligence on the part of the factory authorities.
