The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh has successfully reclaimed thousands of hectares of grazing land that had been illegally occupied. Following the Chief Minister's directives, the revenue department launched a special campaign that resulted in the recovery of over 27,000 hectares of grazing land. Remarkably, all grazing land across 12 districts has been freed from encroachment, with plans to accelerate efforts in other regions soon.
Among the reclaimed areas, Ayodhya stands out, with over 2,000 hectares having been cleared of illegal occupants. This significant achievement highlights the government's commitment to protecting cow grazing lands, which are essential for the welfare of livestock and agriculture in the state.
The campaign has not only freed land but also sets a precedent for future conservation efforts. District officials have been instructed to prepare a village-wise list of grazing lands, ensuring a systematic approach to future reclamation. After the monsoon, a comprehensive campaign will further target illegal encroachments, allowing the Animal Husbandry Department to utilize the freed land effectively.
In tandem with land reclamation, Chief Minister Yogi has emphasized the importance of assessing stray cattle populations in both urban and rural areas. Plans to construct additional sheds in cow shelters have been set in motion, with directives for maintaining proper cleanliness to prevent issues like mud and waterlogging. Each shelter is to be equipped with adequate straw, green fodder, and water, along with arrangements for the respectful burial of deceased cattle.
