Young thief scales tree after being caught in Jalpaiguri, police bring him down after long effort

An unusual scene unfolded in the Keranipara area of Jalpaiguri on Sunday when a young man climbed a tall tree after being caught in the act of theft, fearing he would be assaulted by local residents. The incident created a dramatic situation in the neighbourhood, drawing the attention of police, Panchayat members and fire brigade personnel.

According to reports, the youth, a resident of the Pilkhana area, allegedly broke into a house on Sunday morning and attempted to steal money. However, the residents of the house caught him red-handed, prompting panic and fear of a possible beating from the gathering crowd.

In an attempt to escape the angry locals, the accused ran out and climbed a nearby tall tree, refusing to come down despite repeated requests. Local authorities soon arrived at the scene and began efforts to persuade him to descend safely.

After several hours of coordinated effort by the police, Panchayat representatives and the fire brigade, the youth was finally brought down from the tree. He was then taken into police custody and transported to the police station, where an investigation into the incident has been initiated.
