Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A 30-year-old woman named Sangita Patra was found dead in South Kolkata's Patuli area on Sunday. Her body was found hanging inside the apartment where she had been staying with her partner. Neighbors alerted the authorities after the incident came to light, prompting the Patuli police to rush to the spot and recover the body, which has since been sent for a post-mortem examination.
The family of the deceased has raised serious allegations against her live-in partner. They claimed that the young man had entered into a relationship with Sangita under the pretext of marriage. According to family members, the partner had established a physical relationship with her by promising a future together, but they suspect foul play or mental harassment led to this tragic outcome. It remains unclear whether there had been any recent domestic disputes between the couple.
While the police initially suspect this to be a case of suicide, they are not ruling out other possibilities. Investigators are looking into the call records and messages of the deceased to understand her mental state in the hours leading up to the incident. The live-in partner is expected to be summoned for questioning to determine the nature of their relationship and whether any specific event triggered Sangita's extreme step.
