"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
A quiet neighbourhood in South 24 Parganas turned into a scene of shock and grief when the body of a 22-year-old youth Buddhadeb Jana was found hanging from the balcony of a primary school right next to his house in Bankimnagar under Gangsagar Coastal Police Station. Local people spotted the body and immediately informed the police. Officers reached the spot, brought the body down and sent it for post-mortem while starting an investigation.Buddhadeb’s heartbroken family strongly insists that this was not suicide but a planned murder.
The youth's family claims that their son was in a relationship with a 15-year-old minor girl living nearby. About eight days ago, the girl reportedly called Buddhadeb to her home where her family members caught him and had beaten him badly and forced him to sign a blank paper promising to pay few lakh rupees. The family also alleges that when Gangasagar Coastal Police reached the spot earlier, they sided with the girl’s family and beat Buddhadeb instead of helping him.
Since the incident, the youth had been very scared and depressed, but the family never thought he would take his own life. They are demanding a proper probe of the murder case and the arrest of everyone involved, including the girl’s family members. Police have registered an unnatural death case and are waiting for the post-mortem report while recording statements from both sides. The incident has created tension in the area with locals gathering in large numbers.
