Youth murdered in Bidhannagar after New Year's eve brawl

A 25-year-old man, Subrata Maji, died from severe head injuries after an altercation in the Mahishbathana area of Bidhannagar on the night of December 31. Subrata, a food delivery worker, was found in a critical condition at a local club field in Udayanpalli in the early hours of January 1. His injuries included deep head trauma, leading to his death at RG Kar Medical College Hospital later that day.

The police have arrested Subhuj Mistri (28) in connection with Subrata’s death. Investigations indicate that Subrata and Subhuj had a history of disputes, though the exact nature of their conflict on the night of the incident remains under investigation. Local witnesses have confirmed that Subhuj was present at the scene when Subrata was found injured. Police are examining his role and any other individuals who may have been involved.

Subrata had gone out to celebrate the New Year with friends on the night of December 31. Around 3:00 AM, a local resident contacted Subrata’s family to inform them that he had been found injured in the Udayanpalli area. Subrata’s mother, Rita Maji, stated that her son had not returned home by midnight, despite her earlier warnings. The family immediately filed a murder complaint after he was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

The police are exploring the possibility that the altercation stemmed from an alcohol-related gathering. Investigators have confirmed that Subrata may have been involved in a disagreement or fight at the gathering, leading to the violent assault. The nature of the altercation is still being examined, with police considering multiple individuals' involvement in the incident.
