Youth shot in broad daylight by unidentified men in Howrah amid crime surge

A youth named Bapan Bera was shot in the Santragachi Lake area of Howrah on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred around midday when unidentified bike-borne assailants fired at Bapan while he was riding his motorcycle. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Locals present nearby rushed the injured youth to the hospital. His condition is reported to be critical.

According to preliminary information, the attackers arrived suddenly, targeted Bapan, and opened fire before escaping. The identity of the assailants and the motive behind the attack have not been confirmed yet. Police have begun an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the attackers. Forensic teams have also been deployed to collect evidence from the spot.

This incident follows a recent spate of crimes in Howrah, including thefts, kidnappings, and violent attacks, which have raised concerns over the district’s security situation.
