Dr. Subhash Chandra, Chairman of Essel Group and former Rajya Sabha MP, has announced plans for a biographical film honoring the late Ratan Tata, who passed away in a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday. Following his death, Dr. Chandra expressed his condolences to the Tata family and confirmed that Zee Entertainment will collaborate with WION to create this tribute. The film aims to celebrate Tata's extraordinary life and legacy, with profits pledged to various social causes, including initiatives focused on education, healthcare, and community development.
In a heartfelt message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Chandra conveyed his sorrow over Tata's passing, reflecting on their numerous interactions. He emphasized Tata’s visionary leadership, innovation, and substantial contributions to the Indian industry, stating, “I regularly interacted with him on corporate issues and will always cherish his legacy of innovation and social responsibility.”
Ratan Tata served as Chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 until 2012 and was instrumental in transforming the Tata Group into a global powerhouse. He began his journey with the group in 1961, starting on the shop floor at Tata Steel. Succeeding J.R.D. Tata as chairman, he led significant acquisitions, including Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus. His tenure paralleled India’s economic growth, marking a pivotal era in both the Tata Group's history and the country’s development narrative.
Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd also released a statement paying tribute to Tata, acknowledging him as a symbol of leadership, vision, compassion, and work ethic for generations of Indians. Punit Goenka, MD & CEO of ZEEL, proposed the biographical film to honor Tata’s substantial impact through his entrepreneurial and social initiatives. R. Gopalan, Chairman of ZEEL, expressed sadness over Tata's passing, stating that the film would inspire millions to follow in his footsteps.
The biographical project will require approval from Tata Sons, and ZEE has committed to donating all profits to social causes. Umesh Bansal, Chief Business Officer at ZEE Studios, emphasized the honor of working on a film that reflects Tata's positive impact on the world, vowing to accurately depict his legacy. Zee Studios aims to ensure global reach for the film through its collaboration with WION, which boasts a significant viewership across more than 190 countries. “Ratan Tata was a global personality and commands respect for his deeds and actions worldwide,” stated ZEEL.
