A significant amount of cash has been seized in Jalpaiguri during the election season, with police sources indicating that the individuals involved are affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The incident unfolded when a vehicle was stopped for a routine check near Kranti Masjid around 8:30 pm on Saturday.

Upon inspection, a total of ₹7,75,000 was found in the car, registered to Rakesh Nandi, the BJP convenor in the Mal assembly constituency. However, Nandi reportedly failed to provide valid documents for the recovered cash. During questioning, he disclosed that the money was received from Deepa Vanik, the president of BJP's Mahila Morcha in Jalpaiguri, for party-related expenses. Additionally, ₹1,30,000 was also seized from Deepa's vehicle, bringing the total confiscated amount to ₹9,05,000.

In response to this development, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) took to their social media platform and posted on X, "In Jalpaiguri, with MCC enforced & just 5 days to go for the election, what are @BJP4Bengal local leaders up to? They were caught RED-HANDED carrying a massive, undocumented ₹9.5 lakhs cash! Bangla-Birodhi BJP, just so you know, you CANNOT buy out people's mandate. On 4th June, your bishorjon from Bengal is inevitable!"
